Precarious Alliance

| |

In this series, hummingbirds, ravens, horses, and other creatures are clustered together in unexpected habitats. They stand, fly, and float in a white ground that simultaneously represents place and the absence of place. The elements in these paintings are confined: water, dirt, grass, and blood are reduced to geometric shapes–blocks of abstract matter. The work addresses personal and social themes, using a playful language to address dual threats: the compartmentalization and abuse of the natural world and the analogous experience in human hearts and minds.
